The Brewton Police Department has seen a busy start to April with several arrests made during a two-day period last week.
Candida Regina McArthur of Brewton was arrested April 4 when agents with the narcotics division made a traffic stop on the vehicle driven by the suspect.
Sgt. Andrew Casey said McArthur gave consent to search her belongings during the stop.
“Agents found her in possession of methamphetamine, Xanax pills and a homemade methamphetamine pipe,” Casey said.
McArthur was placed under arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
On April 5, agents responded to information received through the department concerning illegal drug activity at a residence on Martin Luther King Drive, Casey said.
“Upon arriving to investigate the tip, agents observed a male suspect flee the scene,” Casey said. “The suspect was apprehended by agents after a short foot pursuit.”
Casey said agents returned to the residence and found a large amount of illegal drug items on an outside table at that location.
“Altogether, agents collected 19 bags of marijuana of various sizes and one bag containing several pieces of crack-cocaine,” Casey said. “A digital scale typically used to weigh drugs was also found at the scene.”
Following a search of the residence, officers took two other suspects into custody, Casey said.
Demetrius Deonta Barton was identified as the fleeing suspect after his capture. Kyfus Bernard Dexter and Ronnie Edward Collins, Jr., were arrested following the search of the residence, Casey said.
Barton, Dexter and Collins were all charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana in the first degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. Barton was also charged with attempting to elude law enforcement.
Each of the suspects was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where they were book on the charges against them.
