Brewton BR: Tigers stun Aggies Thursday for first losses of the year, Vols sweep Kentucky

The 2013 Brewton Babe Ruth league will not have a team go undefeated this season as the Auburn Tigers stunned the 6-0 Texas A&M Aggies with a sweep Thursday in Brewton.
The Tigers improved to 3-5 this season as they swept the Aggies 11-8 in game one and 3-2 in game two to drop the Aggies to 6-2.
In games in East Brewton Thursday, the Tennessee Volunteers swept the Kentucky Wildcats by a score of 5-3 in game one and 11-8 in game two. Tennessee improved to 6-2 while Kentucky fell to 1-7.
Following Thursday’s games, the Aggies remained in first place with head-to-head wins over the Volunteers, who were in second place. Both teams are 6-2. Auburn moved into third place with their 3-5 record while Kentucky sat in fourth place with a 1-7 record.
Auburn 11-3, Texas A&M 8-2
The previous one-win Auburn Tigers took down the undefeated Aggies of Texas A&M Thursday in Brewton.
In game one, Auburn built a big lead, but held on for the two-run win. The Tigers led 11-3 after the fifth inning, but saw the Aggies score five runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 11-8. The Tigers were able to hang on for the win.
Tim McDonald earned the win on the mound for Auburn as he went six innings and allowed six hits, eight runs, walked six and struck out seven.
Auburn pounded out 13 hits in the win with Lane Clark having three singles and Christian Mancil having two singles and a double to lead the way. Brooks Brown added a double and a single.
For the Aggies, Austin Holmes, Lane Chavers and Drew Williamson all pitched with Chavers being the pitcher of record.
At the plate, Chavers led with a double while five other Aggies had singles.
In game two, Weston Riddle had a one-out sacrifice fly to right field that scored TyShawn Davis from third to give Auburn a 3-2 win over the Aggies and take the sweep.
Auburn led 2-0 after the fifth, but saw the Aggies tie the game up in the top of the sixth.
Stokes Jennings, Brooks Brown and Riddle pitched in the win for Auburn while Tripp Floyd, Christian Alvarez and Holmes pitched in the loss for Texas A&M.
At the plate for Auburn, Jennings led the way with two singles while three other Tigers had one single each.
For the Aggies, Holmes led the way with two singles while five other Aggies had a single each.
Tennessee 5-11, Kentucky 3-8
Tennessee’s Vols swept the Kentucky Wildcats Thursday in East Brewton to stay in the hunt for the league’s top team.
In game one Thursday, Tennessee scored four runs in the first inning to propel themselves to a 5-3 win over Kentucky. Tennessee led 5-0 after the third inning, but held on for the two-run win after Kentucky plated three runs in the sixth.
For the Wildcats of Kentucky, Dakota Graves and Colton Morris both had a double each in the loss. Morris had two RBIs and Brandon Moye had one.
For the Vols, Caleb Winton had a double and a single while Jo Jo Booker had two hits in the win. Russell Smith had two RBIs and Jason Konsler had one.
Sam Frazier took the loss on the mound for Kentucky while Joshua Winton earned the win for the Vols.
In game two, Tennessee rallied from an 8-3 deficit in the third inning with five runs in the fifth and three in the seventh to get an 11-8 win.
For Tennessee, Joshua Winton had a triple while Hunter Brittain, Smith and Christopher Gehman all had doubles. Brittain led the way with four RBIs. Gehman had two.
For Kentucky, Graves had a homerun while Jared Cooper had two doubles and Moye had a double. Cooper and Graves had two RBIs each.
Gehman, Smith and Brittain pitched in the win for Tennessee while Cooper, Matt Hutchins and Frazier pitched for Kentucky.
