East Brewton votes to seek law enforcement contract with Brewton

The East Brewton City Council voted 4-2 Monday to make an offer to contract with the City of Brewton for law enforcement services.
The issue — discussed for months in East Brewton — was prompted by financial concerns on the part of East Brewton. Council member Ludon Simmons and Mayor Terry Clark were the only “no” votes Monday. Council members Ned Sibert — who made the motion to seek the contract — along with Kenny Hultz, Byron Palmer and Bob Arant voted yes.
A contract, of course, is contingent on Brewton’s council agreeing to a proposal. Sibert has said East Brewton would seek law enforcement services for $275,000 a year, which he said would save East Brewton money.
“We will present it to Brewton and it will be in their court,” Clark said.
