There was a moment, albeit a brief one, when East Brewton Little League Age 11-12 All-Stars coach Danny Parker considered not coaching this season.
One could not blame Parker if he had opted to sit out the season after an accident while deer hunting last winter left him with a crushed right pelvis, a cracked left pelvis, three cracked ribs and four broken vertebrae.
This is Parker's fourth year of coaching youth sports overall and second with Little League. This is also Parker's second season with coaching Little League All-Stars. Last year Parker guided East Brewton's Age 11-12 All-Stars team to a runner-up finish at the district tournament.
Parker has had to completely restock his roster this year.
Parker said his workload has been lessened considerably thanks to assistant coaches Allen Settle, Ritchie Evans, Jimmy Ray Mullins and Steve Blackman.
Like Murder Creek rival Brewton, East Brewton's all-stars have never played an all-star game on their home turf. East Brewton will once again be on the road this year when district competition gets underway Saturday at Evergreen. East Brewton's first game is at 8 p.m. against Andalusia.
Parker said he made a smooth transition to Little League's new pitch count rule that replaced an innings limitation on pitchers.
