Leave fireworks to professionals

Fireworks can bring delight to children and adults of all ages. However, most fireworks activities should be left to the professionals for safety and legal reasons, local fire officials say.
Although many retail establishments sell a variety of legal consumer fireworks, all fireworks are hazardous and can cause injury.
Even though Brewton residents have not swamped emergency rooms as a result of fireworks injuries that is not the case across the nation. Any firework is hazardous and can cause injury.
Jackson said those most frequently injured by fireworks are children between the ages of 10 and 14.
Alabama law prohibits persons younger than 16 years of age from purchasing fireworks unless they are accompanied by an adult. The law also states any items purchased by consumers must meet regulations as set for by the CPSC and DOT definitions. No item may contain more than two grains of explosive materials.
East Brewton officials are reminding citizens that the use of fireworks inside the city limits is prohibited.
Brewton has a similar law that does not allow individuals to use fireworks inside the city limits.
A July 4 celebration will end with a festive display of fireworks at the Fort Crawford Park in East Brewton with the show set to begin at 9:30 p.m.
State officials are also encouraging safety for those who live outside the city limits of any town who choose to use fireworks this holiday season.
