Seeing his or her players improve is one of the biggest satisfactions a coach can enjoy. Brewton Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Stars coach David Knowles has seen that with his players over the past couple of years.
This is Knowles' seventh year of coaching youth baseball and his fifth year coaching all-stars.
Brewton's all-star season began Monday at Uriah, three days earlier than originally announced but nearly a month since the regular season ended.
Brewton's 13-year-old all-stars won their district championship last weekend and its 14-year-olds qualified for the state tournament when no other district member fielded a team. Knowles said he would like to complete a sweep of state berths in the age 13-15 level. That goal got a lot tougher when Brewton lost in the first round to Evergreen Monday.
One obstacle for Knowles' team is the lack of experience playing on the Uriah field.
Knowles is being assisted by Robbie Warren and Randy Rilling.
