Lisa and Freddie McMillan will be cooking up a storm Thursday morning preparing food for those who may be alone for the Thanksgiving holiday.
“I just couldn’t think about sitting down to enjoy a meal when there may be someone who’s hungry,” McMillan said. “Freddie and I will be cooking and packing Thanksgiving kits this year to deliver to those who need a meal for the holiday.”
McMillan said one component of the meal kits will be fresh turnips which will join typical holiday fare in the deliveries.
“We have some fresh, fresh turnip greens we grew,” McMillan said. “We are going to putting that in the kits so everyone can enjoy them.”
McMillan said the kits would contain enough for more than one person or more than one meal.
“We’re going to pack the kits with enough food so that one person can have a couple of meals,” McMillan said. “If there are two people in the home, there will be enough in the kits for them to have a couple of servings each. We want to make sure everyone has enough.”
The complete menu will consist of cornbread dressing, baked chicken and gravy, sweet potato souffle, turnip greens and cornbread.
“Just give us a call and we’ll make sure we pack a kit for those who need it this Thanksgiving,” McMillan said.
