Police: Robbers tried to steal an ATM machine

Atmore police are investigating a robbery at a gas station early Monday morning.
Police said they responded to a business alarm at the BP station on Alabama 21 and Interstate 65 at about 3:45 a.m. Monday.
When they arrived on the scene, officers found the front door to the business damaged, and a large chain was around the store’s ATM machine.
The store’s video surveillance tapes showed two black males in a silver or light-colored SUV — possibly a Tahoe or Yukon — drove up to the front door and use a pry bar to gain entry to the store. They then wrapped a chain around the ATM machine and attempted to remove it using the vehicle, but the chain broke.
The suspects then fled north on Alabama 21.
