RSVP will offer free tax preparation assistance beginning next week at the Brewton Public Library.

The service will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, by appointment only.

Anyone interested in making an appointment can call RSVP at 867-0255 or 867-0256; do not call the library.

Charles Smith of RSVP said the service is for those 60 and older who have a household income of $51,000 and below.

“All of our volunteers are IRS trained and certified, and we e-file,” Smith said.

For the appointment, people should bring a Social Security card for themselves and any dependents they are claiming; a photo ID; and any W2 forms, 1099 forms or Social Security benefit statements.

“We do a standard return,” Smith said.

If possible, people should also bring a copy of last year’s tax returns.

The service will last until April 15.
