In their final area game of the season Friday night in Daphne against Bayside Academy, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles were the lone W.S. Neal team to come away with a win.
The Lady Eagles edged out Bayside Academy 36-30 to improve to 5-14 overall and finish 4-2 in area play.
The B-team Eagles lost 39-24 to drop to 2-13 overall this season. In varsity action, W.S. Neal lost 54-39 to fall to 5-16 overall and finish 1-5 in area play.
The area win for the Lady Eagles solidified their No. 2 seed in the area tournament, while the loss for the varsity Eagles tied them with T.R. Miller for the third and fourth spots. W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller will have to flip a coin to decide the No. 3 and 4 seeds in the upcoming area tournament.
No stats, scorers or game information from the B-team and girls game was known as of press time.
In the varsity boys game, TyShawn Davis led with 10 points in the loss while D.J. Hodges added eight points. Jacobey Hawthorne added six points while Malik Jones and Treylon Watson both added four points each. Kenny Walker had three points, Troy Lewis had three points, and Antwan Jones added one point in the loss.
“Not a bad game played on our behalf,” W.S. Neal Eagle varsity boys head coach Anthony Hayes said. “We couldn’t sustain the level of play needed to get over the hump and beat a quality opponent. The first half we were able to really stick to our game plan and went into the half down three points. The third quarter for us has been our worst quarter and this was again true Friday night. We were outscored 20-7. We were aggressive and got to the foul line but didn’t capitalize on the opportunities. We were 14-for-36 from the free throw line in the loss tonight. We have to continue to work on the little things needed to be successful within the game.”
All three W.S. Neal teams will travel to St. Luke’s Episcopal Thursday night for a 5 p.m. tip.
W.S. Neal will take on Pleasant Home Friday at 4:30 p.m. before returning home on Monday, Feb. 3, in their final game of the regular to take on Flomaton. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. and will be Senior Night for W.S. Neal.
