Mr. Richard Alton McElroy, 88, of Alco Drive, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at a local nursing facility after an extended illness. He was a native of Bankers, Mich., and a former resident of Chicago, Ill., before moving to Brewton in 1978. He was a retired switchman with Illinois Central Railroad with 33 years of service, a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Battle of the Bulge and receiving two bronze stars and the Purple Heart. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lois Margaret Baker McElroy of Brewton; a son, Terry Allen (Mi Young) McElroy of Orange County, Calif.; two daughters, Mary Beth (Ralph) Nabozy and Denise McElroy, both of Clearwater, Fla.; two grandsons, John Nabozy and Kyle Watkins.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, July 31, at 11 a.m. at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Frank Scott officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
