Stephanie Nelson has been named the publisher of The Brewton Standard and its associated media productions.
She replaces Kerry Bean, who is relocating to the Birmingham area with her husband. Josh Bean recently was promoted by the Alabama Media Group, which produces al.com.
Nelson, 36, comes to Brewton from Andalusia, where she served as news editor for The Andalusia Star-News for the last eight years.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to meet and serve the people of Brewton,” Nelson said. “A vibrant community newspaper helps create a firm foundation for every city and town, and it takes a comprehensive and dedicated team of individuals to create a great product. In Brewton, that staff is already in place, and I look forward to working with them to create the best products possible.”
“Our loss is Brewton’s gain,” Star-News publisher Michele Gerlach said. “Her commitment to news coverage and her positive attitude will be much appreciated in her new role.”
Nelson is originally from Florala, Ala., and studied communications at Troy University. Prior to joining The Star-News, Nelson worked the education reporter for The Crestview (Fla.) News Leader and as a staff reporter at The Opp News. She also worked in municipal government.
Nelson has served as a director on the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce board, and as a member of the Covington County Miracle League Committee and the Children’s Department of Rehabilitative Services Parent Advisory Board. She also is a member of the Andalusia Lions Club.
Nelson and her three daughters – Ora, 14: Mia, 10; and Dianna-Grace, 9 – look forward to calling Brewton “home.”
She begins work in Brewton today.
