TRM to host Area 2 Volleyball Tournament
The Alabama High School Athletic Association has awarded T.R. Miller High School the 2007 Class 4A Area 2 Volleyball Tournament.
The tournament will be Oct. 16. W.S. Neal and Andalusia will join the Lady Tigers in the three-team field.
The Area 2 champion and runner-up will advance to regional competition Oct. 20 at the Area 3 champion (Daleville, Opp and Ashford). Area 1 (Escambia County, Jackson, Monroe County and Thomasville) and Area 4 (Brewbaker Tech, St. James and Elmore County) will also send its champion and runner-up to the regional.
Area 2 has been paired with Area 4, while Area 3 has been paired with Area 1. The Area champion will play the Area runner-up from the opposing area.
The top four teams from the regional competition will advance to sub-state competition Oct. 25. Regional champions will host the fourth place team from another regional, while the second place team will host a third place team.
Sub-state winners will advance to the state tournament, which will be held in Pelham Oct. 31-Nov. 1.

Region 3 in playoffs
Class 4A Region 1 has been paired up with Region 3 for this year's Alabama High School Athletic Association state football playoffs.
Region 1 iincludes T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal. Thomasville, Southside-Selma, Monroe County, Escambia County, Hillcrest-Evergreen and Jackson also compete in Region 1.
Region 3 contains Beauregard, Central-Coosa, Childersburg, Cleburne County, Dadeville, Elmore County, Handley and Holtville. Elmore County knocked T.R. Miller out of last season's playoffs in the second round.
Region 2 is paired up against Region 4 in the other part of the top half of the 32-team bracket.
Regions 2 contains Alabama Christian, Andalusia, Ashford, Bullock County, Daleville, Opp, St. James and Trinity Presbyterian. Trinity knocked W.S. Neal out of last year's playoffs in the second round.
Region 4 contains Central-Tuscaloosa, Fayette County, Greene County, Holt, Jemison, Livingston, Northside and Oak Grove.
The bottom half of the playoff bracket pits Region 6 against Region 8. Region 6 contains Alexandria, Ashville, Boaz, Cherokee County, Douglas, Guntersville, Jacksonville and Saks.
Region 8 contains Brooks, Central-Florence, Deshler, Haleyville, Hamilton, Lawrence County, Rogers and Wilson.
Region 5 is paired up with Region 7 in the final part of the playoff bracket.
Region 5 contains Corner, Dora, Fairview, Locust Fork, Midfield, Oneonta, St. Clair County and Tarrant.
Region 7 contains Ardmore, Columbia, DAR, East Lawrence, East Limestone, Madison County, North Jackson and Priceville.
The opening round of the playoffs will be Nov. 9. Second-round games will be Nov. 16 followed by the quarterfinals on Nov. 23 and the state semifinals on Nov. 30.
The Class 4A state championship game will be Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. at Birmingham's Legion Field.
The Class 4A title game is one of two championship games that will be played that day. Class 1A will play its finale at 3 p.m.
Dec. 7 title games are for Class 2A at 3 p.m. and Class 5A at 7 p.m.
Dec. 8 title games are for Class 3A at 11 a.m. and Class 6A at 3 p.m.
