The City of Brewton has added Wi-Fi at the second of its three parks, Mayor Yank Lovelace said.
The project started last year with Sportsman Park, he said.
“We just added Brewton City Park and, by the end of the month, we should have Jennings Park wired up,” Lovelace said. “I see these developments as necessary infrastructure for a city in 2014.
Lovelace said the city is poised for growth and industrial development, and this project is one of the many ways to make the city more attractive to business.
“Wi-Fi is just as important to today’s business development as paved roads were a few generations ago,” he said. “As we make this city ready for the next century, technology upgrades must be part of the plan, and we will add more public Wi-Fi as high-need areas are identified.”
“It has been our goal over the past year to foster a new industry, ecotourism, and to vastly improve the quality of life for our residents and visitors here,” he said. “We have a new start-up company providing canoeing and kayaking on our beautiful creeks. We have a huge park expansion that can open up a new revenue stream for the city. All these are great advances, but we cannot ignore technology. There is no reason why a smaller city should ignore amenities that people enjoy in larger metropolitan areas when we can have them.
“Voluntary recycling is one thing we implemented here, and now public Wi-Fi is being added where possible,” he said.
