With parking spaces at a premium and the smell of fresh crayons in the air, more than 2,000 students filled the halls of area schools Thursday as the bells rang at W.S. Neal Elementary, Middle and High schools and Brewton Elementary and Middle schools and T.R. Miller High School.
Knott said the first full day of school for kindergarten students was Friday, with Thursday as a registration day for the group.
Students at Brewton Elementary School were greeted on a staggered schedule with each grade coming to the school for the first day at various times.
W.S. Neal Middle School saw a smooth couple of days as the 2007-2008 school year began.
Pollard-McCall Junior High School also had a good couple of days to get their year off to a good start.
Enrollment is up at the school by a handful and everyone is starting off on a good note, said Hugh White, principal at Pollard-McCall.
Total enrollment for Escambia County Schools, which includes schools in East Brewton, Atmore and Flomaton was estimated at 5,487 students. Enrollment in the Brewton City School system was estimated at 1,250.
