Babe Ruth Tuesday: Arkansas and LSU get wins

Tuesday night’s Babe Ruth games in East Brewton saw rematches from Monday’s season opener games in Brewton. In the Tuesday rematches, Monday’s winners all took losses as all four teams in the league now sit at 1-1 after two games.
On Tuesday, the Arkansas Razorbacks defeated South Carolina 9-5 while the LSU Tigers defeated Arizona State 10-5.
Games will be continue Thursday in Brewton with teams scheduled to play each other for the third time this week.
Teams will look to win their series Thursday as South Carolina will meet Arkansas in the rubber match of their three-game series at 6 p.m. LSU and Arizona State will play their rubber match at 8 p.m.
Arkansas 9, South Carolina 5
After dropping their first game of the season to South Carolina Monday in Brewton, the Arkansas Razorbacks got revenge on the Gamecocks Tuesday in East Brewton as they earned a 9-5 win.
Jo Jo Booker pitched Arkansas to the win as he went 4 2/3 innings and allowed two hits, three runs, one earned, walked four and struck out 11.
Weston Riddle went the final 1/3 of an inning and allowed three hits, two runs, none earned, walked none and struck out one.
After one inning, both teams were tied at 1-1 before Arkansas struck for three runs in the second and four in the fourth to build an 8-1 lead. South Carolina plated one run in the bottom of the fourth but Arkansas added one in the fifth to grab a 9-2 lead. South Carolina made things interesting in the bottom of the inning as they plated three runs to get within 9-5, but could not get any closer as they took the loss by four.
At the plate for Arkansas, Drew Williamson went 3-for-3 with one RBI while Riddle went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.
Matt Hutchins added two RBIs while Booker was 1-for-1 with two RBIs. Hunter Revel went 1-for-3 with one RBI and Austin Rowell was 2-for-3.
For the Gamecocks of South Carolina, Derrick Barton, Joshua Winton and Aaron Bosarge all pitched. The trio combined to go five innings and allowed nine hits, nine runs, five earned, walked five and struck out eight.
At the plate for South Carolina, Winton was 1-for-2 with one RBI while Barton was 2-for-2 with a homerun and two RBIs. Caleb Winton went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI while Preston Townson was 1-for-3.
LSU 10, ASU 5
A five-run third inning for LSU proved to be the difference Tuesday night in their 10-5 win over Arizona State.
Leading 3-2 after the second inning, LSU scored five in the third to grab an 8-2 lead. LSU would add one run each in the fourth and fifth innings to build a 10-2 lead. Although Arizona State scored three in the sixth inning, LSU was able to hang on for the five-run win.
For Arizona State on the mound, Hunter Brittain, Russell Smith and Micah Flores all pitched with Brittain taking the loss.
The trio combined to go five innings and allowed 10 runs, struck out seven and walked four.
For LSU, Stokes Jennings and Lane Clark pitched in the win with Jennings being the pitcher of record. The duo went six innings and allowed five runs, struck out nine and walked five.
At the plate for ASU, Flores had three singles and one RBI while Jordan Williams added a single and one RBI. Brittan had a double and one RBI while Smith had a single.
For LSU, Clark had a single and Conner Huskey had a double and two singles. Jennings added a single while Brandon Moye had a double and three RBIs.
Kristian Taylor had two singles and two RBIs, O’Neil White had a single and one RBI. Blake Schoonover added a single and Tyler Baxter had a single in the win.
