The City of Brewton is co-hosting the second annual Brewton Geocaching event: The Burnt Corn Cache Flow and sponsorships are available.
The event is set for Sat., Aug. 2, in downtown Brewton and is expected to bring an anticipated 75 to 100 Geocaching enthusiasts and family members from across the region to our city as they follow clues and GPS mapping to find hidden treasure and clues in the public parks. The event is being coordinated by Cache Hounds of Brewton including Lacie and Eddie McCall, Joel Migas II and Johnny Watson.
The event will begin with a quick lesson on Geocaching on Friday evening at 7 p.m. at city hall, a breakfast Saturday morning at a local eatery, the actual hunt on Saturday and a cleanup session on Sunday morning.
“This event is designed to expose a regional audience to our city and its developing amenities and encourages use of our hotels and motels for the participants with reduced rates,” said Connie Baggett, the city’s director of program development. “Internet advertising is already showing an impact with a healthy response on dedicated sites.”
Sponsorships are available on the following levels: platinum, $200 or more; gold, $100; silver, $50 or standard, $25. Any donation of water or other materials usable in the event would be greatly appreciated.
Platinum level sponsors get special recognition as such on event T-shirts and the official event banner. All cash donors get listing on the shirt with other donors listed on the banner. This event is fully endorsed by the Brewton City Council and Mayor Yank Lovelace.
