WSNMS football moves to 4-0

It may have been closer than the last time the two teams met, but the W.S. Neal Middle School football team earned a 16-6 win over Monroeville Thursday night to see their record move to 4-0 overall this season.
W.S. Neal led 8-0 after one quarter and at the half. The Eagles added another score in the third quarter to build a 16-0 lead heading into the fourth. In the fourth, Monroeville picked up their lone score of the game to cut W.S. Neal’s lead to 16-6, but WSNMS was able to hang on for the 10-point win.
In the win Thursday, W.S. Neal picked up 13 first downs and 280 total yards of offense. The Eagles had 221 yards on the ground and 59 in the air.
Nate Hutcheson once again led the Eagles in rushing as he had 161 yards on 18 carries and had both touchdowns for W.S. Neal.
Noah Hill added 14 yards on six carries and Zack Baxter finished with 41 yards on five carries. Ty Williams had one carry for five yards and Matt Thomas had one carry for no yards.
Thomas went 4-for-5 passing for 49 yards in the win.
Taylor Fountain had one catch for 17 yards and Williams had one catch for seven yards. Jennings Hobbs had one catch for 21 yards and Hutcheson finished with one catch for 14 yards.
Monroeville had four first downs in the loss and a total of 117 yards. The Tigers had 13 rushes for minus-33 yards and went 11-for-15 passing for 150 yards and one score.
