Atmore City Council member Susan Smith came up short in her race for the State Senate, District 22, seat Tuesday night.
At 10 p.m., with 94 percent of the district’s precincts reporting, the Republican Albritton had 20,194 votes to the Democrat Smith’s 10,317 (66 percent to 34 percent).
Among Escambia County voters, Albritton led with 5,232 votes to Smith’s 3,773.
“It doesn’t look favorable for me at this point,” Smith said. “I just appreciate everybody coming out and voting, especially those that supported me. I truly enjoyed getting out and renewing old friendships, and meeting new people.
The people have voiced their choice. I respect that, and will do everything I can to support Greg.”
The seat had previously been held by State Sen. Marc Keahey, a Democrat. Keahey chose not to run for re-election this year.
