You know her face and many know her name, so Pam Wyatt is no stranger to those who live in East Brewton.
She is the water board clerk of East Brewton, and if you live there, she is the one who collects the water fees for the city.
She also sends out the bills and collects the fees for water, garbage, sewer and fire protection for the city. She works in the clerk’s office at city hall and loves what she does.
“I know almost all of our customers who come in to pay their bills,” she said. “They are always surprised that I can call them by name in most cases. I’ve been here long enough that I have just gotten to know them.”
She has been working the desk and drive-through window since 2000, and worked in city hall even before that, as a dispatcher for the East Brewton Police Department.
“I worked there about three years from 1997 to 2000,” she said. “When this job became available, I moved over to the clerk’s office and have been here ever since. It’s a good place to work. It allows me to be able to still be involved in my kids’ activities. You can’t get that just any place. My daughters are very important to me and I want to spend as much time as I possibly can with them. I am able to work around that here and that might not happen at any other position.”
East Brewton City Clerk Karen Singleton said Wyatt is a very good worker and an even better mother to her children.
“She is a great co-worker and an even better mother,” said Singleton. “I commend her for both her work here in the office and her devotion to her family as well. We all work in the same office and we work well together. If I get really busy, she is right there to help me and she doesn’t have be be asked.”
Wyatt grew up in East Brewton and graduated from W.S. Neal High School in 1995. She then attended Jefferson Davis Community College until she got married in 1997.
“I had thought I wanted to be a nurse,” she said. “But, I got married instead.”
She married Joey Wyatt, who works at the City of Brewton landfill on Jay Road. They live in East Brewton and have two daughters, Tori, who is 16, and Ashlie, who is 11. They both attend W.S. Neal. She has always been a busy mom getting the girls to and from their activities.
“Now that Tori has turned 16, and old enough to drive, she is being a big help to me.” Wyatt said. “I worry about her driving, but it sure saves me some trips.”
Wyatt said she is happy in her work and has plans to stay around for a long time.
