Miller beats Monroe County

The Brewton Middle School Tigers used three touchdowns by three different players to hang on for a 20-14 win over Monroeville Thursday night at Brewton Municipal Stadium.
Brewton got on the board first when Caleb Hubbard recovered a fumble in the end zone and Conner Denton passed to Marc Edge for the two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead with 2:15 left in the second quarter.
Brewton added to its lead when running back Devonte Johnson took the handoff from Denton and ran around left end then pulled up to pass and found Edge in the end zone for a 14-0 lead after a failed conversion attempt with four minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
Monroeville took the ensuing kickoff 78 yards to the end zone to cut the lead to 14-8 after the two-point conversion with 3:40 left in the game.
Brewton added to its lead as Johnson rushed 46 yards for the decisive touchdown to make the score 20-8 with 1:44 left in the game.
Monroeville cut the lead to 20-14 after a 65-yard pass play, but Brewton took over and ran the clock out for the win.
Johnson was the leading rusher for Brewton as he had 80 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown.
Denton finished 3-for-5, passing for 33 yards. Edge’s 20-yard reception from Johnson was his only catch on the night as he had one touchdown.
