Some 15 high school bands will arrive in Brewton on Sat., Oct.. 24, to participate in one of the area’s largest band competitions.
The Dixieland Band Festival will once again be held in the Brewton Municipal Stadium at T. R. Miller High School, with the first performance set to begin at 12:15 p.m.
“The Dixieland Band Festival was founded in the 1980s, and has grown to be the go-to venue for many bands in the southeast,” said TRM band director Damon Anderson. “In addition, it is a day of great fun for the entire family. It is considered to be one of the highlights of the marching band season.”
The newly renovated stadium will serve as a backdrop for an event, which features some of the finest marching bands from all over Alabama and along the Gulf Coast.
Bands will perform their usual halftime shows and will be judged by a panel of current band directors.
This year’s showcase band will be the Tuskegee Marching Crimson Pipers from Tuskegee University. This group has enjoyed a long history of excellence, appearing at many major national events. Their exhibition venues include the highly acclaimed Honda Battle of the Bands. In addition to their regular exhibition, the Pipers Drum Line will feature a special presentation which was put together specifically for the Dixieland Band Festival.
In addition to the competition and exhibitions, Dixieland will also be hosting the Poarch Creek Indians pow wow dance group from Atmore.
Admission is $7 per person.
Concessions will be available throughout the day’s performances. Awards will be held at 8 p.m.
