Local authorities responded early Wednesday morning after bomb threats were made on two traveling Greyhound buses.
Chief Deputy Mike Lambert with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said his office received the 6 a.m. emergency call from the Mobile Police Department, who stated bomb threats were made on two separate buses.
“Both were leaving Mobile, but one was headed to Pensacola and the other Montgomery or Greenville,” Lambert said. “Our deputies were able to intercept one bus on I-65; however, communications were ceased because of safety concerns. The only way (Greyhound) was able to follow the bus was to use its on-board tracking system.”
When the bus crossed the county line, Lambert said officials in Conecuh County and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s explosives experts were notified.
“The bus was directed to the Evergreen airport, where a coordinated search didn’t reveal anything immediately suspicious,” Lambert said.
He said the second bus was intercepted in Pensacola by Florida officials.
“At this time there aren’t enough details to know if the threat was called in by an individual or if it could be an outside source,” Lambert said. “In this type of situation, there are a number of factors at play. We’re glad to have been able to offer assistance to all the agencies who saw this event end in a successful and safe resolution.”
