Last week the T.R. Miller baseball team visited The Meadows and West Gate Village. The junior varsity and varsity teams came bearing gifts in the form of poinsettias.
“This is something we wanted to do to give back to the community,” said TRM head baseball coach Kevin Madden.
“We thought it would be a good time for our kids to do this right before Christmas time,” he said. “Anytime you can reach out to the community I think it’s a good thing. It makes our kids become aware of a lot of things outside of the game which is really good for them.”
At The Meadows players distributed the poinsettias to the residents. A few players even put their singing skills to use, singing a rendition of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
Madden said he is thankful for the opportunity to visit The Meadows.
“We would like to thank Mark Manning for allowing us the opportunity to go to The Meadows and share Christmas joy with the residents,” he said.
Administrator at The Meadows Lynda Leigh Stringfellow said the staff and residents are appreciative to the Tiger baseball team.
“We would like to thank Coach Madden and the TRM baseball team for their visit,” Stringfellow said. “Residents are enjoying the lovely poinsettias brought by the team. We appreciate their thoughtfulness.”
The team also stopped by West Gate Village to leave some poinsettias.
“West Gate Village would like to thank coach Kevin Madden and the entire baseball team for thinking of our residents during the holiday season.,” said West Gate Village administrator Trenton McInnish.
Senior Jake Najor was one of the players to take part in visiting The Meadows and West Gate Village.
“It means a lot to be able to give back,” Najor said. “The community has always been very supportive. I’m sure I can speak for my teammates in saying that we are very grateful for this experience in being able to spread a little holiday cheer.”
The T.R. Miller varsity baseball team will begin their baseball season on Tues., Feb. 23 against W.S. Neal at 6 p.m. in East Brewton. Their first home game is March 1 against Excel. For a complete schedule, visit the brewtonstandard.com.
