Three Escambia County residents were arrested last week in conjunction with the burglary and arson of a Brewton attorney’s Castleberry hunting cabin.

Conecuh County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Chad Emmons said a fourth suspect from Castleberry was also taken into custody following the Jan. 3 blaze.

Arrested were:

• Charles Edward Addison, 40, of Castleberry;

• Charles Donet Brown, 30, of East Brewton;

• Caitlyn Ariel Carpenter, 19, of Brewton; and,

• Brandon Daryl Puch, 22, of Appleton.

The four face a host of charges including burglary and were each booked into the Conecuh County Jail on a $325,000 bond.

The cabin, which was located on 23-acre parcel off Baggett Road, was a total loss.

“The suspects confessed to setting the cabin on fire to cover up the burglary,” Emmons said. “From inside the cabin, the four confessed to taking firearms, a TV, antique-type memorabilia and other assorted items. Thankfully, most of the property has been recovered.”

Emmons said the act was drug-motivated as the suspects confessed to being under the influence of narcotics at the time of the incident.
