The Brewton Package store is now open for business. The store is ran by community natives, Sarju Patel and Wade Winstead. After its first full week of a soft opening, Patel said business has been steady.
“Business has been mostly done through word of mouth and our Facebook page,” Patel said. “As of now we’re still filling inventory, stocking and taking suggestions from our customers.”
Patel said opening a package store was an idea she and her husband pondered after realizing there was a lack of liquor options during late hours.
“We had company come into town on Labor Day,” Patel said. “It was pretty late so every place was closed. We couldn’t find anything local so we had to drive to Flomaton.”
Winstead agreed.
“We wanted to figure something new out together,” Winstead said. “We talked about different options, and came to the conclusion there was a need here. There was nowhere else nearby that sold liquor at night.”
Brewton Package will carry an assortment of liquors and tobacco. Tobacco products will be available in the coming weeks; and include a full line of cigarettes and cigarillos.
The store will also carry a wide variation of craft beers where customers can build their own six-pack.
Patel said Brewton Package plans to have a section dedicated to Alabama made liquor like vodka, bourbon and moonshine.
Taija cups and coolers, like the Yeti, will be available for purchase in the second week of March.
Currently, the store has $1.99 wine specials.
“Right now we’re open to taking suggestions from our customers,” Patel said. “We have a good vendor. We just need to know what brands our customers like.”
Brewton Package is located downtown at 427 South Blvd., in the shopping center near Dollar General.
Current open hours are on Wed. and Thurs., from 4 to 10 p.m.; Fri., from 4 p.m. to midnight; and Sat., from noon to midnight.
