April will be the season of good sounds in Brewton as the city is set to host three musical events.

The Greater Brewton Chamber of Commerce will present its annual “Kick it at the Creek” event on Sat., April 9, at Jenning’s Park. Music from the band, Branded X, will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m. Flats of crawfish will be on sale for $15 each, while pizza by the slice and Pepsi products will also be available.

Then, the Temptations, featuring Dennis Edwards, will hit Brewton on April 16. Edwards was the singer featured on songs such as “Cloud Nine” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone.”

“This is the feature act for the ‘Picnic in the Park’ event sponsored by Peach Chevrolet,” said Brewton’s director of program management Connie Baggett. “This will be a great time for everyone to come out and enjoy some great music.”

Ryan Balthrop, along with other local acts, will open the day’s music.

Also held in Jennings Park, advanced tickets are $20 each and available at Jus Do, Peach Chevrolet and the Oak’s Café, or online at temptationsinbrewton.eventbrite.com. Tickets will be $25 per person at the gate.

Music will return indoors on April 30 as Rheta Grimsley Johnson’s “Hiram; Becoming Hank Williams” takes center stage at Jefferson Davis Community College at 7 p.m.

Johnson, along with John M. Williams, wanted to explore the musical and life influences that “made Hank’s music immortal,” territory they felt was eclipsed by all that’s been written about Williams’ dramatic death.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students at the door. The show is a bonus performance for season ticket holders with the Brewton Council of the Arts performance series. Production representatives confirmed this week that Hank Williams’ daughter Jett Williams, who penned a song for the play, will attend the production in Brewton.
