T.R. Miller High School has named Terrence Walker its new boy’s varsity head basketball coach.
“(Walker) is a Miller guy, and I feel there is no one more deserving,” said TRM athletic director Andrew Thomas.
“I have full confidence in what (Walker) is going to do with our basketball program but also in varsity football as our defensive back coach. We’re going in a great direction with our basketball program. We’re all excited for what (Walker) is going to bring.”
After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Troy University and master’s degree from Jacksonville State University, Walker spent two years at Escambia County High School where he served as the head basketball coach and assistant football coach.
He joined TRM this past year and served as assistant coach for middle school football, head coach for boy’s middle school basketball and girl’s varsity basketball assistant coach under head coach Ron Jackson.
“Thank you to Coach Thomas, superintendent Dr. (Kenneth) Varner and principal Mrs. (Mary) Bell and everyone else who helped me get to this opportunity,” Walker said. “I love wearing the red, white and black.”
Walker is a 2007 graduate of TRM where he competed in football, basketball and track.
TRM will hold basketball tryouts next Tues., May 24 at 2:30 p.m. and Wed., May 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the TRM gymnasium.
Walker said the tryout will be a simple workout to see where the players stand in ability as far as running, dribbling, and shooting.
