T.R. Miller High School student Christopher Ellis has been selected to become a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.

The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.

“It’s a blessing to receive this type of recognition,” Ellis said. “I hope to achieve a lot through it.”

Ellis’s mother, Christy Ellis, said she is proud of her son for his hard work.

“I’m excited for him,” she said. “I told him to apply for as many scholarships as you can. We are just praying that accomplishments like this will open up doors for scholarship opportunities. He’s a God-given born leader, so we’re just praying God will open doors for him.”

The announcement was made by NCHSS Founder and Chairman, Claes Nobel, senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.

“On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and commitment that (Ellis) has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” said Nobel.

“(Ellis) is now a member of a unique community of scholars- a community that represents our very best hope for the future.”

Ellis is a junior at TRM in the Honors Program. He is also a two-sport athlete in track and basketball and serves as section leader as a tuba player in the TRM Marching Band.

“I like science and math,” Ellis said. “I plan to use those subjects in computer science and mechanical engineering when I go to college.”

Ellis lists Tuskegee University and the University of Alabama as his top choices for colleges to attend upon graduation from TRM.
