Tigersharks shine in Auburn

The Brewton local area swim team, the Tigersharks, and over 24 other teams from four states traveled to Auburn to compete in the Annual War Eagle Invitational Swim Meet held on the campus of Auburn University at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center on Oct.7 to Oct. 9.
Tigersharks in attendance were:

• Matthew Kirkland;
• Jake Sasser;
• Carli Peach;

• Kylee Langham;
• Kamryn Langham;
• Mason McGhee
• Mary Ashlyn Williams;
• Aubree Wiggins;
• Maci McGhee;
• Aiyanna McGhee; and,
• Cash Griffey.
Several swimmers earned personal best times including Jernigan, Atkinson, Kirkland and Dean Thelen.
Jernigan broke several team records this weekend, smashing his personal best times, swimming a 1:02.14 100 backstroke, a :55 sec 100 freestyle and a 2:02.27 200 freestyle and a 5:48.26 500 freestyle, deep qualifying for high school sectionals.
Atkinson swam a personal best time of 1:13.56 in the 100 backstroke; 1:25.63 in the 100 breaststroke and a 1:00.41 in the 100 freestyle, which were his fastest times to date.
Byrd, a superstar 10 year-old swimmer, had an amazing meet, taking a top-10 finish of ninth overall in the 9-10 girls age-group scoring 80 total points. She earned top four finishes in five individual events in Auburn with a third overall in her signature breaststroke event.
The Tigersharks will be in action again Nov 18-19 in Pensacola for the GPAC meet at The University of West Florida.
