While the year ended with two Brewton restaurant closings, the New Year will bring at least one new eatery to the area.

Closings included Bakies restaurant, which was located in the Brewton Height’s Shopping Center and Swain’s Sandwich Shop on the Boardwalk.

Cody Swain called his decision to close “bittersweet.”

“We have thoroughly enjoyed serving the citizens of Brewton, however we’ve decided to pursue different opportunities at this time,” he said. “We want to say ‘thank you’ to our loyal patrons for their support and we hope everyone continues to support your local businesses.”

There will soon be a new Asian restaurant open in Brewton in the former Hunan’s Garden location – Happy Kitchen.

With a sister location in Andalusia, the site will feature Chinese and Thai foods, as well as hibachi and sushi on the menu.

Owners have set a tentative opening for the end of the month.
