Couple charged after body found near Castleberry
An Evergreen couple is facing capital murder charges after allegedly dumping the man’s body near Castleberry this weekend.
Conecuh County Chief Investigator Chad Emmons said Tuesday 22-year-old Jammall Spencer of Monroe County was found shot to death in the Franklin Town Community Saturday.
Emmons called the shooting a “sad, senseless act.”
“From what we know, there was a plot to lure Mr. Spencer out and rob him,” he said. “After that, he was murdered in a sad, senseless act.”
Emmons said the crime was first discovered when hunters found a burned vehicle in the Mixonville Community around 6 a.m. Saturday. It was apparent some type of crime had occurred.
“Then, a separate group of hunters found Mr. Spencer’s body, just before 8 a.m. alongside County Road 29, some 25 miles from where his vehicle was found,” he said. “From there, our investigation was launched.”
Later that evening, investigators made their first of two arrests in the crime – 20-year-old Tiffany Salter. On Sunday, a second suspect – 23-year-old Martell Stallworth – was arrested. Both are charged with capital murder and are currently being held without bond in the Conecuh County Jail.
