Brewton resident Antonio Gomez has been involved in a historic Christmas break.
He is among almost 50 members of C-N's A Cappella Choir who will travel to Israel and Jordan Dec. 14-25 as part of “Prepare the Way Concert Tour 2007: Peace on Earth, Good Will to All.”
Gomez, the son of Julia McCaskill and Luis Gomez, is a sophomore Vocal Performance major. The T.R. Miller High School graduate has been named to the Dean's List and enjoys track and field and participating in a praise and worship band.
An adjunct professor at the Jerusalem Institute for Biblical Exploration, Morris conceived the idea and engaged with friends and colleagues to coordinate the international effort. “With the hope of a just peace looming on the horizon, it is time to ‘prepare the way,'” Morris said.
A Cappella will perform in Amman, Jordan, and as part of a 160-voice combined ensemble in Nazareth and Jerusalem. The larger group includes KCS members, the choir of Mandeville, Louisiana's St. Timothy United Methodist Church and other choristers.
A Christmas Eve concert in Bethlehem's Manger Square was to be a highlight of the city's annual festivities that include processions by various local churches, and coordinated in part with the Peace Center in Bethlehem. It is expected to be the largest performance at the historic site since 1999.
