Rosemary Jernigan has been fielding calls from many people lately, including some who have been waiting for a chance to complete their education for years.
Jernigan, working in tandem with Jefferson Davis Community College and Huntingdon College on the schools' new degree completion partnership, said the program is “great for the community.”
Adults who have earned at least 30 transferable college credit hours from accredited institutions and who desire to complete their undergraduate degrees are eligible for the program, which upon completion will earn them a degree in business management from Huntingdon.
Classes, which begin next month, will be held at the JDCC campus in Brewton. The program is similar to partnerships that Huntingdon has in Baldwin County, Enterprise and Birmingham.
The first class begins on Jan. 17. Classes will meet on Thursday evenings in five-week sessions per course. The classes are offered through Huntingdon's School of Business and Professional Studies, and registration is under way now. Anyone interested can call Jernigan at 809-1553.
The degree completion program is one that will help make Brewton even more attractive to business and industry. With the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree right here at home, students who have not been able to complete their education have a wonderful chance to further their careers. The situation could not be a more win-win for our community and for both schools involved - not to mention the students.
Jernigan believes that students will enjoy the classes as well as learn new skills and gain opportunities. As she told one prospective student, “If you don't enjoy this program, we have failed you.”
