John Preston ‘Bubbie’ Madison

Atmore

John Preston Madison “Bubbie” went Home to Glory on Fri., Feb. 10, 2017, at 10:38 a.m. He was 63 years old.

He was cremated at his request. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.

Madison

He was born Mon., Nov. 9, 1953, in Atmore, and graduated in Atmore in the Class of 1972. He was a Native American of the Creek Tribe.

Family that preceded him to Glory were his parents, John P. “JP” Madison and Bennie “Cooter” Madison; brother, Sonny; and two sisters, Net and Beth.

He is survived by a brother, Kyle.

His life on this earth brought much love and peace to those who knew him. He served at the Zales Jewelry Company for 30 years and sold thousands of diamond wedding rings to those happy in love couples. He also found love for more than 40 years and was legally married on Sun., Sept, 20, 2015, at noon by their friend, Mayor Jimmy Weekley of Key West, Fla. He is survived by his spouse of four decades, Russell L. Marx.

Lewis Cleveland Pugh

Brewton

Lewis Cleveland Pugh, 79, of McGougin Road in Brewton, passed away Fri., March 17, 2017.

Visitation will be held Thurs., March 23, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Henry and the Rev. Lamar Butts officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native and life long resident of Brewton. He was a member of the Sheperds Chapel. He enjoyed making music, was an avid fox hunter and loved his dog, White Shoes. He was a retired logger from Robert Pugh Logging.

He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Darren) Chavers; brother, Robert (Shirley) Pugh; sister, Clarice Southwell, all of Brewton; three grandchildren, Aundrea (Jason) Beasley, Victoria (Erik) Cobb, Ralph (Samantha) Pugh; four great grandchildren, Riley, Bryson, Olivia, Ridge; sister-In-Law- Jewel Pugh; brother-in-law, Frank Wheeler; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Cheston Buck Pugh; four brothers, Leon Pugh, Curtis Pugh, JD Pugh and Verlon Pugh; sister, Marie Wheeler; and sister-in-law, Joyce Pugh.

Wilma V. Fuqua Lambert

Brewton

Wilma V. Fuqua Lambert, 91, of Dogwood Lane in Brewton, passed away Tues., March 14, in a Jay, Fla., medical facility after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Fri., March 17, at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. George Weaver and the Rev. Bernie Raines officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of the Dixie Community, and a life long resident of Brewton. She was of member of the East Brewton First United Methodist Church.

She was a retired secretary from the Escambia County Alabama School System and was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and canning.

She is survived by her sons, Earl (Becky) Lambert of Brewton, and Denny (Tanya) Lambert of Andalusia; daughter, JoAnn Downing of Brewton; brother, Ronnie (Linda) Fuqua of Brewton; five grandchildren, Leigh L. Moore, Jake Lambert, Joe Downing, Clay Lambert and Taylor Lambert Causey; and five great grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Moore, John Moore, Colin Causey, Ella Gray Lambert and Claire Lambert.

She was preceded in death by parents, David and Maybell Ware Fuqua; husband, George Lambert; two brothers, Jullian Fuqua and Charles Fuqua; sister, Virginia Waller; and grandson, DJ Downing.

Charles Ray Gillman

Berrydale, Fla.

Charles Ray Gillman, 65, of Berrydale, Fla., passed away on March, 14, 2017. He was born on May 10, 1951, in Plant City, Fla.

Funeral services were held on Fri., March 17, at 11 am also at Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton. Burial followed at Berrydale Community Cemetery.  Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton is entrusted with arrangements.

He was a long-time resident of this area and a long-time employee of Pensacola Building Supply, Warren Hardware and Lowes building supply of Pensacola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Gillman and Willestine Glover.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen Gillman; two sons, Timmy Ray Gillman and Greg Yalch; two daughters, Stephanie Yalch Wilson and Erin Yalch Hollingsworth; three brothers, Joe Gillman, Tim Gillman and Paul Gillman; and grandchildren, Brittany, Kirsten, Garrett, Hunter and Savannah.     

The Rev. George Berton Bounds

Brewton

The Rev. George Berton “Bert” Bounds, 85, of Plum Street in Brewton, passed away Sat. March 18, 2017, in a Pensacola, Fla., hospice after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Tues., March 21, at 11 a.m. at the Catawba Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Edwards, the Rev. Chuck Bounds and Dr. Leslie Colvin officiating. Interment followed in Catawba Springs Cemetery in Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native of Lumberton, Miss., a former resident of Brandon, Miss., St. Francisville, La., Opp, and a long time resident of Brewton. He attended Louisiana College and graduated from the Southern Baptist Center for Biblical Studies. He was a U.S. Marine, the former preacher at Catawba Springs Baptist Church for 19 Years and was a Southern Baptist preacher for 46 years.

He is survived by his wife, Ola May Colvin Bounds of Brewton; two sons, Chuck E. (Martha Jo) Bounds of North Carolina, and John Bounds of Coker; daughter, Lynn Bounds of Brewton; sister, Ruth Bryant of St. Francisville, La.; and eight grandchildren, Christopher (Heidi) Brackin, David (Ashley) Bounds, Jacob Bounds, Ben Bounds, Jonathon Bounds, William Bounds, Patrick Bounds and Anna Grace Bounds.

He is preceded in death by grandchildren, Clay Bounds and Lindsay Brackin.

June Britt Joyner

East Brewton

June Britt Joyner, 72 of Hart Street East Brewton, Alabama passed away Sunday March 19, 2017 in a Jay, Florida Medical Facility after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Tues., March 21, at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Farley officiating. Interment followed in Weaver Cemetery in Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of Montgomery, a former resident of Andalusia, and a long time resident of East Brewton. She was a member of the East Brewton Church of God where she served as ladies auxiliary secretary, director of church daycare, and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Howard Joyner of East Brewton; son, Jeffrey (Misty) Joyner of East Brewton; daughter, Sheila (Jay) Bondurant of East Brewton; daughter-in-law, Donna Joyner Davis; sister-in-law, JoAnne Britt; and eight grandchildren, Paige Joyner, Tylen Joyner, Madison Joyner, Emma Joyner, Alexandra Bondurant, Summer Bondurant, Jacob Bondurant, Jailyn Bondurant; and four nephews. She is preceded in death by parents, Gadsen and Beulah Mae Hartley Britt; son, Greg Joyner; brother, Johnny Britt; sister, Jane Gorum; and brother-in-law, C.W. Gorum.

Betty Sue Merchant

Brewton

Another angel was called home. Betty Sue Merchant passed away on March 17, 2017 at her home.

Funeral services were held Tues., March 21, at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. James Peacock officiating. Interment followed in Union Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She fed the world working in the food industry all her life including being former owner of East Side Cafe of East Brewton. She was a wonderful and loving sister, mother, grandmother and aunt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Manford A. Merchant; parents, Clarence and Susan Inez Hudson; six brothers, Arthur, Junior, Charles, Tony, Johnny and Terry Hudson; one sister, Linda Ann Anthony; and great grandson, Jonathon Wilson.

She is survived by her brother, Troy (Rita) Hudson of Merryville, La.; sister, Marion Leonard of Grove Hill; three daughters, Cathy Blackwell (Lewis Como) of Castleberry, Alice (Danny) Hendricks of Pineview, and Tracy (Jr.) Blair of East Brewton; two sons, Robert Johnson (Rebecca Daw) of Range, and Daniel (Christie Bradley) Johnson of East Brewton; stepdaughter, kathy (Billy Ray) Blair; stepsons, Jimmie Merchant and Ricky Merchant; 17 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
