The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the death of a 3-month-old infant in Atmore.

Reports indicate the child’s parents called 911 at approximately 11 a.m. Tuesday morning after they woke to find the infant unresponsive. The parents began resuscitative measures until emergency personnel arrived. The child was transported to Atmore Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The ECSO treats all deaths – whether unattended, suspicious or unknown in nature – as homicides.

Currently, the parents are cooperating with law enforcement and the department of human resource to facilitate the investigation. No official determination will be made until the state forensic science department releases its autopsy findings.
