After not having such good luck of any kind in their first two games of the Robert Burke Classic holiday tournament at Pensacola Catholic, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers won a close game against the host team Saturday night as they defeated Pensacola Catholic 34-32.
With the win, the Lady Tigers went 1-2 in the tournament and improved to 6-4 on the season.
After playing to a 9-9 tie at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tigers held a 20-16 lead at the half after taking an 11-7 scoring lead in the second quarter.
The Lady Tigers kept their four-point lead at the end of the third as they held a 26-22 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
After holding a two-point lead with seven minutes left, Catholic was unable to convert on free throws as T.R. Miller held on for the two point win, 34-32.
Nakiya Smith led the Tigers with 12 points in the game as Kesha Peterson and Catherine Green were selected to the All-tournament team.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Hillcrest to open up area play.
Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Evergreen.
