New Beginnings Worship Center will be open today at 4 p.m. as a “shelter of last resort.”
Escambia County EMA director David Adams said those seeking shelter are encouraged to seek shelter with family or friends who live in well-built homes first.
“Evacuees should bring any needed bedding like blankets and pillows; food, snacks, drinks, medications and items to occupy children like coloring books, reading books, small games,” he said. “These are not medical needs shelters and medical personnel will not be on site.”
In Atmore, Rachel Patterson Elementary School will serve as a similar site.
