With a goal of $90,000 set in October, the United Fund of Brewton and East Brewton has hit the target sooner than some expected.
The United Fund of Brewton and East Brewton gives more than 99 cents of every dollar it raises to the 16 member agencies that will receive funding this year. Money raised by members of United Fund will benefit residents of the Brewton and East Brewton communities keeping the donated funds at home.
The residents of Brewton and East Brewton have responded to the need as the United Fund drive winds down it's final drive period, United Fund co-president Barbara Moncrief said. The $90,000 goal was met and exceeded through donations and pledges.
The best thing about the money received from this drive is that it will be staying in the surrounding area. Those who give are helping the 16 agencies work for the community.
There were two new agencies added current recipients of the funds this year. Both Community Character Project and Wellness of Wheels will be receiving funding for the first time this year. Those who received benefits for the coming year are Brewton Area YMCA, American Red Cross-East Escambia Count Chapter, Girl Scouts-Deep South Council, Brewton Public Library, Community Character Project, Brewton Parks and Recreation Department, Escambia Mental Health Association, Boy Scouts-Gulf Coast Council, East Brewton Youth Sports, Southwest Alabama Mental Health/Mental Retardation Board, Wheels of Wellness, Escambia County Cooperative Library System, Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Disabled Children and Adults-Brewton Chapter, Hope Place Family Resources, and Christian Community Benevolent Fund.
