Barbara Monk Maddox

Brewton

Barbara Monk Maddox, 75, of Brewton passed away Fri., Nov. 17, 2017, in her beloved hometown after a brief illness.

A memorial service was held Sun., Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A time of fellowship followed the service.

She was a native of Greenville and lifelong resident of Brewton. She was a 1960 graduate of T.R. Miller High School and was a member of the marching band.

She attended Larkins Business School and worked in several local businesses, including being an on-air personality for WKNU and WEBJ radio stations and working in sales for The Brewton Standard.

She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Brewton and was a dedicated member of the choir.

She enjoyed participating in community theatre productions and was most proud of her recurring role as the nanny in the annual production of the Nutcracker. Barbara loved spending time with her family and friends and was the light and laughter in any room she entered.

She was an avid fan of T.R. Miller, attending homecoming every year, and Alabama football.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Obed Alto and Ina Maude Monk.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jimmie Maddox of Brewton; daughter, Tina (Mike) Wallace of Mufreesboro, Tenn.; son, David (Nona) Maddox of Brewton; sisters, Melanie (Dan) Monk Morris of Montgomery, and Janet Monk Dunaway of Foley; three adored grandchildren, Davis (Hannah) Wallace of Mufreesboro, Tenn., Wes Maddox of Brewton, and Heath Wallace of Mufreesboro, Tenn.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations in Barbara’s memory to your favorite charity.

Yvonne Seaman Joyner

East Brewton

Yvonne Seaman Joyner, 74, passed away Nov. 13, 2017, at her East Brewton residence.

Funeral services were held on Sun., Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Knowles officiating and interment following at Weaver Cemetery.

She was born in Bayou La Batre and had been a life-long resident of East Brewton. She was a homemaker and was a member of New Vision Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Seaman and Aline Bonin Seaman; her husband, of 51 years, Tot Joyner; a brother, Leonard Seaman; and two nephews, Karl Seaman Jr. and Karl Rhodes.

She is survived by a son, William (Donna) Joyner of Brewton; daughter, Charlene (Eddie) Cantu of Flomaton; four brothers, Glennon Seaman and Winston Seaman, both of Irvington, Ray Seaman of Grand Bay and Karl Seaman Sr.; three sisters, Cindy Lyon and Lindy Deakle, all of Bayou La Batre, and Anna Seward of Coden; four grandchildren, Amber (Dusty) Wilson, Sheena Cantu, Dillon Cantu and Trista Younkin; two great-granddaughters, Karsyn and Kerrigan.

Active pallbearers were Kent Deakle, Eddie Cantu, Phil Seaman, Charlene Cantu, Winston Seaman and Karl Seaman Sr.
Honorary pallbearers are Chesley Caro, Johnny V. Scott, and Howard Joyner.

Jerry Sam Salter

Flomaton

Jerry Sam Salter, 74, of Flomaton passed away on Mon., Nov. 20, 2017, in a Mobile hospital.

A memorial service will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Tues., Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. with Bro. Phil Bowen officiating.

A time of visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until service time.

He was born in Bay Minette and had been a long-time resident of Castleberry prior to moving to Flomaton.

He was a member of the Conecuh County High School Class of 1962. He retired as a maintenance supervisor at Monsanto with 34 years of service.

He served with the National Guard, and was a former Mason. He was an avid fan of The University of Alabama, where he was a member of Tide Pride.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Flois Salter, and a brother, Wayne Salter.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joann S. Salter of Flomaton; three sons, Jeremy (Ashley) Salter of Byrneville, Fla., Jeff (Andrea) Salter and Joey (Tracy) Jernigan) Salter of Brewton; six sisters, Hellon Pitchford of Opelika, Mary Bowen of Excel, Shirley Clark of Bay Minette, Linda Cotten of Bay Minette, Deborah Kendrick of Evergreen, and Donna Salter of Dothan; seven grandchildren, Solomon Salter, Eliza Salter, Peyton Williams, Mary Caitlyn Salter, Jackson Salter, Anniston Salter, and Emerson Salter; one great-grandson, Ethen Salter.

Shelia Diane Chavers

Brewton

Shelia Diane Chavers White, 65, passed away on Sun., Nov. 19, 2017, at her Brewton residence.

Funeral services will be held today, Wed., Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Quick officiating.  Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pollard.

Visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home today from 1 p.m. until service time.

She was a life-long resident of Brewton. She was a homemaker and was a member of Pollard United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nettie Mae Lucas Chavers.

She is survived by her husband, John D. “Johnny” White Sr.; her father, Curtis L. Chavers; a daughter, Leah (Heath) Gibson; two brothers, Larry Buster (Sharon) Chavers, Scott Chavers, all of Brewton; a son, John D. White Jr. of East Brewton; two sisters, Paula (Glenn) Hall of San Angelo, Tx., and Kelly (Douglas) Gantt of Flomaton; five grandchildren, Trae White, Ty White, McKenzie Gibson, Brodie Gibson, and Bristol Gibson.

Pallbearers will be Rufus White, Todd White, Trevor White, Cade White, Jonathan Chavers and John Robert Fountain.

Honorary pallbearers are Tony Yuhasz, Matt Carter, and Jacob Gantt.

Mae Bell O’dell

Brewton

Mrs. Mae Belle O’Dell, 82, passed away on Tues., Nov. 14, 2017, in the Atmore hospital.

Graveside funeral services were held on Sat., Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. at Union Cemetery with family members speaking.

She was born in Gaffney, S.C., and had been a resident of Brewton for the past 48 years, coming from Atlanta.

She worked as a home health aide and enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Alabama Crimson Tide. She was of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Elizabeth Spencer; and her husband, Hubbard “Hub” Odell.

She is survived by a son, Robert (Robbie) Emerson O’Dell of Telluride, Co.; a daughter, Roberta Elizabeth O’Dell of Brewton; a step-son, Richard (Emery) O’Dell of Roanoke, Va.; and two grandchildren, Samuel Booker, and Anna Teagan.
