WSN varsity wins Senior Night

The Eagles are now preparing for the area tournament that will be hosted by the Andalusia Bulldogs. “There was a three-way tie in the area, and it came down to a coin toss to see who will host the tournament,” said head coach Dewan Salter. So, Andalusia won the coin toss and will be hosting the tournament.
The tournament starts Thursday with Monroe County and Escambia County playing at 5 p.m. following with W.S. Neal and Andalusia playing at 6:30 p.m.
“We have three days of practice to prepare for the area tournament,” said Salter. “The biggest concern is to rebound better, get less turnovers, be more aggressive defensively and get more shots.”
The finals of the tournament will be at 6 p.m. February 10th.
WS Neal also celebrated senior night by defeating Robertsdale High School 57-43 Friday night.
It was a close and competitive game, and at the half the Golden Bears lead against the Eagles (21-20). However, to some nice well adjustments the Eagles finished the game strong.
“We did well on our press, which got the other team in trouble with turning over the ball a lot,” said Salter. “We finished the game strong. We usually have to fight to get out of a whole, but that wasn’t the case for this game.”
“We started slow, and made some mistakes,” said Salter.” Our intensity picked up, and we played well as a unit. Maddox had a good defensive game.
“We worked better as a team, had more assists and we scored better as a team,” said Salter. “We still not moving the ball like I want to, but we are getting better.”
Leading scorers Marvin Maddox and Jacobey Hawthorne combined for 28 points. Where both senior guards scored 14 points apiece. Maddox grabbed eight boards, dished out five assists and went on a stealing spree with nine steals. Along with Hawthorne grabbing five rebounds, one assist, four steals and one block.
Mateo Smith contributed with 12 points, grabbed three rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Marcus Page added nine points and five boards. Noah Hill(Jr.) chipped in eight points, three rebounds, two assists, and had three steals.
