Flu hits Brewton area

Feeling a little feverish? You're not alone.
The Brewton area is seeing an increase in flu cases in recent days, local health officials said, joining the rest of the state in a winter outbreak of the disease.
Raulerson said the lab at D.W. McMillan Hospital has conducted 110 tests for the flu in the past 30 days. Of those, 24 have been positive.
Overall, there has been an increase in influenza activity around the state over the past four weeks, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.
Deborah Marriott, principal at Brewton Elementary School, said she has seen a few student excuses that mention flu diagnoses, but the school has also been hit with a number of other illnesses among students and teachers this winter.
