Eleven families were evacuated when a fire overtook an upstairs apartment at the Wynnchase Apartments on Williamson Street in East Brewton.
The fire was contained to one apartment, according to firefighters on the scene.
Sylvia Curtis, manager for the complex, said the families will only be allowed to return to their apartments after an inspection of the effected apartments is completed. Adjoining apartments may have suffered smoke and water damage. The damage found will determine when and if families are allowed back into their apartments.
