Brewton native Tyler Joyner has completed his first professional shutout on his first professional start, in his first professional baseball season.
That is all a mouthful but true and maybe even still a dream to Joyner.
Joyner tossed a three-hit shutout, leading the Aberdeen Ironbirds to a 3-0 victory over the Connecticut Tigers in the second game of a double header on Thursday.
Joyner struck out a total of seven hitters for Aberdeen’s fourth shutout of the season and Joyner’s first.
“It was a good experience. We were in a playoff position and I wanted to help. It’s a humbling experience and a blessing to get to play with guys from all over the world and to have the opportunity to play professionally,” Joyner said.
Since last Thursday’s game, the season has ended for Joyner, who now finds himself on the way back to college until spring training.
“It has been a fun ride and a blessing to have the chance to play professionally. It feels like it was just yesterday that I was drafted and now I am officially done with my first professional baseball season. I am really excited to see what is next. I am truly humbled and blessed,” Joyner said.
