The T.R. Miller volleyball team has been hard at work over the past couple of weeks.
The Tigers have been off to a slow but improving start to the 2018 season.
During the Sept. 1st tournament at Mary G. Montgomery, TRM suffered a 0-2 loss to Baldwin County, a 1-2 loss to Alma Bryant, a 0-2 loss to Mary G. Montgomery, and a 0-3 loss to St. Luke.
“We have got off to a slower start than we would have liked. We were playing behind in both sets but we completed well. It was a great opportunity to see that areas that need improving and hope to work on those and improve when we see these teams again in October,” Thompson said.
On the upside, Anna Grace White showed great potential from the service line with only one error on 34 serves.
Kaleigh Folsom racked up with 22 assists and Mallor Floyd ended with 31 digs with 14 kills.
Abigail Cave and Sara Scott had 10 kills each and Scott added 6 blocks on the day.
On the Sept. 4 games against Northview and Straughn, the tigers would improve as the J.V. team would lose out to Northview 2-1, but the varsity team would win against the Northview Chiefs 3-0.
Anna Grace White gained 4 aces.
Mallori Floyd had 6 aces, 7 kills.
Sara Scott ended with a total of 10 kills with 5 blocks.
Abigail Cave had 8 kills on the night.
Following the Northview games, TRM matched up against Straughn.
Straughn has become a pretty big rivalry over the last several years for TRM volleyball and became a huge victory as TRM’s J.V. team defeated Straughn 2-0.
The varsity girls also defeated Straughn 3-0.
“I am pleased with the girl’s performance and we will continue to work to be the best by the end of the season. We are looking for a win against Saraland this year and want to see the state title in our hands at the end of the year,” Thompson said.
