The Brewton City Council OK’d an agreement for a Transportation Alternatives Program funding for sidewalk and streetscape in the Alco Community Monday night.
The funding was announced earlier this month, but Mayor Yank Lovelace said it would likely be two years before the project came to fruition.
“It is a wonderful thing to see the city’s progress,” Lovelace said “Every single day people are working hard in our community to find ways to fund the improvements we need, and this is just another example of how every neighborhood has seen projects implemented. I give much thanks to the Alabama Department of Transportation and to Rep. Alan Baker for always working on our behalf.”
The grant includes $640,000 in federal grant funding and $160,000 in city matching funds for a total of $800,000.
The work includes sidewalk improvements and streetscaping on Alco Drive, College Drive, Fleming Lane, Blacksher Lane, Scott Street, Edwards Street, Dawson Street, Stallworth Street and West Shore Drive. The money comes from the Transportation Alternatives Program administered by the Alabama Department of Transportation.
