TRM Girls XC capture 3A State Runner-up

The cross-country girls team of T.R. Miller captured the AHSAA 3A state runner-up trophy this past Saturday during the AHSAA XC State Championship meet at Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Oakville, Ala.
“The girls were phenomenal this weekend and done a great job. They ran as hard as they possibly could and captured second place against some very tough schools. The girls have captured a first or second place finish every year for the last ten years. They have been tremendous and have earned this position,” said head coach Rob Atkinson.
Out of 156 runners in the 3A girls 5000-meter run, Olivia Blackmon placed the eighth top time at 20:23:12, Jordann Thompson placed 22nd with a time of 21:55:05, Rebecca Ann Moore place 26th with a time of 22:08:29, Samantha Morris placed 40th with a time of 22:37:01, Elisabeth Coleman place 41st with a time of 22:37:70 and Makena Williams placed 131st with a time of 25:53:19.
The Tiger girls placed in second place overall with 127 points, giving them the state runner-up honors over Pleasant Valley High School who placed third with 128 points.
Westminster School at Oak Mountain placed first with 36 points.
“Anytime you can earn a state trophy, you have done something great and I am extremely proud of all of their hard work and dedication,” said Atkinson.
The boys team placed seventh at state with a great performance.
Rider Jernigan ran one of the best races of his career, finishing ninth with a time of 17:30:43, Micah Flores ran the race after playing in a football game the night before, finishing 25th with a time of 18:10:79, Tailand Mitchell finished 35th with a time of 18:18:93, Sam Kelley finished 36th with a time of 18:20:97, Jordan Delawerence finished 91st with a time of 20:01:04, Brooks Feeley finished 118th with a time of 20:58:80, Jayron Blackmon finished 120th with a time of 20:59:92 and James Tolbert finished 124th with a time of 21:07:59.
The guys team finished seventh overall with 161 points above St. Michael Catholic High.
“The guys had a solid performance but it could have been a little better. Rider Jernigan ran the best race of his career and done an outstanding job. Micah Flores ran the race after playing in a football game against St. James the night before and had a great finish. We had factors and injuries to deal with but overall the boys ran a great race and I am so proud of both teams and the season that they have produced,” said Atkinson.
