TRM swim team wins sectionals

The T.R. Miller Swim Team recently traveled to Bishop State in Mobile for the 2018 Sectional Swim Meet.
The men’s and women’s teams performed exceptionally well with the men’s team walking away with the Sectionals 1-5A Championship.
There was a total of 38 1-7A teams competing in the meet.
Out of those teams, 20 were 1-5A teams.
The men’s team of TRM placed first in the 1-5A division, capturing the South Sectional Championship and placed third overall in class 1-7A.
Daphne High School finished in the top spot and Davidson High School placed second with 333 points.
TRM followed up in third with 298 points.
The Tigers out scored second place, St. Michaels 298 to 176.
Nolan Atkinson, Mac Baxter, Micah Flores and Cole Jernigan had outstanding swims in the men’s 4×200 and 4×100 relays.
The guys placed first in both swims with Atkinson leading off and Jernigan bringing up on anchor.
Junior, Cole Jernigan finished in second place in the 1-5A 50 and 100 freestyle.
Jernigan earned 34 individual points with those finishes.
Freshman, Nolan Atkinson finished fourth place in the 50 and 100 freestyles.
Atkinson earned 30 individual points from those finishes.
Sophomore, Mac Baxter finished in third place in the 200 freestyle and finished second in the 500 freestyle, earning him 33 individual points.
Junior, Cobi Godwin placed fifth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 100 breast, earning him 27 individual points.
Junior, Dean Thelen placed fourth in the 500 freestyle and sixth in the 200 freestyle, earning 28 individual points.
Freshman, Caleb Kent finished sixth in the 100 backstroke, earning 13 individual points.
Senior swimmer, Micah Flores finished eighth in 50 freestyle, earning 11 individual points.
Freshman, Jacob Thelen finished seventh in the 100 backstroke, earning 12 individual points.
The men’s team also placed fourth overall with 30 points in the men’s 400 medley relay.
The TRM girls team placed third overall in 1-5A, just missing the runner-up position by a mere 4 points.
7th grader, Kinsley Byrd scored an outstanding 26 individual points in the 100 backstroke and in the 100 breaststroke.
Sophomore, Sara Scott scored 13 points in the 50-freestyle swim.
The team of Sara Scott, Kinsley Byrd, Jocelyn Carpenter and Sailor Smith finished in second place in the girl’s medley relay and third overall in the 200-freestyle relay.
The team of Jocelyn Carpenter, Kayleigh Green, Addison Heath and Tiffany Reiss finished second in the 400-freestyle relay.
The TRM swim team secured a spot in the 2018 AHSAA State Championships with their sectional finishes.
The championships will be held in Auburn on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
