Jewel Lee Nowling Pugh, 84, of Brewton, Ala., passed away late Thursday afternoon, Nov. 22, 2018 in a Pensacola medical facility after a brief illness. She was a native of Flomaton, Ala. and was a life-long resident of Brewton. She attended the Edendale Holiness Church. She was a member of the W. S. Neal Class of 1952. Mrs. Pugh was a devoted wife and mother, who enjoyed sewing, quilting, and cooking for family and friends. She enjoyed family vacations to the Smokies, attending camp meetings with her husband after their retirement, and her favorite place was the beach.
She is survived by her children, Randall Pugh (Debi), Linda Kay Butts (Lamar), Maria Pettis, Stephen Pugh (Camille), all of Brewton, and Rachel Bahrami (Homand) of Muncie, Ind.; a sister, Pearl Alford Beasley of Brewton, Ala.; sister-in-law Jewel Haveard Nowling of Andalusia, Ala.; grandchildren, Jennifer Pugh, Josh Pugh (Elizabeth), LaDonna Shaw Cross (Joel), Lisa Bailey (Johnny), Rodney Butts (Jessica), Lora Lee Davis (Larry Wayne), Richard Pettis, Paul Pettis, David Pugh, Angela Houghton (Greg), Rebecca Fain, Anisa Bahrami, Ethan Bahrami; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, J.D. Pugh; father and mother, Horace Edward and Locie (Myrick) Nowling; brothers Willard Nowling and G.W. (Buddy) Nowling; sister, Elizabeth (Pumpkin) Nowling; son-in-law, Joe Macks Pettis; great-grandson, Clay Houghton.
Visitation was held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Williams Memorial Chapel from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel with Brother Donnis Bowman and Brother Sammy Thomley officiating. Interment followed at Weaver Cemetery, Brewton, Ala. on Appleton Road with Williams Memorial Chapel directing.
Pallbearers were Ethan Bahrami, Josh Pugh, David Pugh, Richard Pettis, Paul Pettis, and Johnny Bailey, Sr. Honorary pallbearers were Wilbur (Gam) Graves, Howard Smith, Charles Stone, Jim Parkerson, Tommy Lee Johnson, and Byrnes Pitts.
