Brewton Public Library is getting a face-lift and the workers are working really hard to make sure those who use the library won’t be left out while changes are taking place.
Beginning on Wed., Nov. 28, many library items will be available at the John L. Fischer Community Center. Employees have joined a number of volunteers to make sure the public still has a place to check out books and tapes, movies and even use the computers. They are not moving everything, but there will be a good selection to choose until the library re-opens next March 15, 2019.
Plans are underway to put a new roof on the library, redo the bathrooms, strip the wallpaper and paint the walls, and, if all goes well, to put down new floors.
According to those that work at the library, the work is being done thanks to a city grant.
“We are doing our best not to interfere with our customers any more than we have to,” said Lynn Likely, Director of the Brewton Public Library. “We will have a lot of the same things in our ‘home away from home’ at the John L. Fischer Community Center. We will also have computers for customers to use. We are excited about the work at the library and expect it to be even better when we re-open. Our plans are to reopen next March 15, at the same hours, but until then we invite all our readers to come to see us.”
